In a shocking incident of a large-scale massacre of sharks, a heap of 120 shark sharks was found on Nine Miles Beach on False Bay near Cape Town.
The sharks were slaughtered and their heads, fins, and gut removed.
Chris Fallows, from Apex Shark Expeditions in False Bay, was asked by the Cape Town Metro Council on Sunday morning to identify the shark species. Fallows says the numbers of these sharks are under severe pressure because too many of them are caught.

Fallows says shark sharks occur in water between 20 m and 150 m deep.
“There are no fishing regulations protecting shark sharks. Nothing is being done by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, ”says Fallows.
The Cape Town Metro Council Law Enforcement Unit confirmed the shark carcasses were discovered around 9 am on Sunday. The circumstances of the incident are being investigated.
