A baby girl found in the Jouberton township near Klerksdorp on Thursday is possibly that of one-year-old Mpho Kgoroyagira who was abducted almost two weeks ago.
“The indications are that it may be she, but it will only be confirmed once the identification has been completed at 08:00 tomorrow morning,” said Col. Northwest Police Chief Adéle Myburgh said Thursday.
Mpho was abducted on Saturday, February 1, during a burglary. “According to her mother, 22, she and Mpho were sleeping in her boyfriend’s house when she woke up and saw an unknown man in the room,” Myburgh said.
The man allegedly grabbed Mpho and ran away. A cellphone from the mother’s friend was allegedly stolen during the incident.
According to Myburgh, members of the local community who helped search for Mpho found the baby car in an open yard near the place where Mpho was kidnapped at about 10 am on Thursday morning.
