The Eastern Cape police strongly condemned the attack on a Ugie couple in the Eastern Cape on their farm.
The couple, both 68 and 67 years old, was ambushed by three attackers on Wednesday at about 20:45 on their farm in the Gubenxe Valley, near Ugie. Police spokesman Tembinkosi Kinana said.
The man was attacked when he went outside the house. “One of the suspects was armed and forced the elderly man back into the house, where they demanded bank cards with him and his wife.”
The attackers forced the couple to drive to their village, where an amount of money was withdrawn from their bank account and then taken back to the farm.
“Back at home, the suspects tied the man, but not his wife, and locked them in the bedroom. They apparently threw gasoline into the house and tried to set it on fire, ”Kinana said.
The attackers fled in a vehicle and are still searching.
The woman helped to get her husband out and fled the home, calling for help, Kinana said.
According to Kinana, the couple was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. A case of house robbery is being investigated.
