A school in KwaZulu-Natal was robbed of its registration fees on the first day of school this year, police confirmed on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele says police are investigating a robbery after gunmen stormed Wednesday at Quarry Heights Primary School in Newlands East.
“Four armed robbers allegedly entered the school at 1:45 pm and robbed staff of cash and cell phones before fleeing.”
Provincial Department of Education spokesman Muzi Mahlambi urged schools not to work with large sums of cash.
“We encourage schools not to receive money on site. They should advise parents and guardians to instead deposit money into the school’s bank account for safety reasons. “
