An armed robber posing as a security guard overpowered the guards in a vehicle storage area, after which he and a group of robbers stole 12 vehicles.
The group of at least 18 robbers stole nine Ford Ranger bakkies, two Ford Fiestas and a Ford Figo from the depot in Maggs Street, Waltloo, east of Pretoria on Sunday.
Police spokesman Mathapelo Peters said the robbery occurred between 6 am and 7 am. The robber was wearing a company uniform as he threatened the security personnel with a firearm.
“He opened the main gate and about 17 robbers, all dressed in uniforms, entered the premises. They tied up the guards and stole 12 vehicles. “
Police Commissioner Elias Mawela has instructed a team of detectives led by the Police Crime Intelligence Unit for Vehicle Crime to arrest the robbers.
