An ANC MP was hijacked by armed men on Saturday night, but dropped off safely at a gas station after a few hours.
Judith Tshabalala was found in front of a friend’s house in the Sebokeng settlement near Vanderbill Park about 9pm on Saturday night, police confirmed.
Tshabalala dropped the friend in her gold-colored Range Rover Evoque when the gunmen overpowered her, pushed her in the back of the car and drove away with her.
The hijackers then drove around for a few hours.
Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says the motive behind the incident is still under investigation.
Tshabalala’s hijackers dropped her off at a petrol station in Edenvale in the early hours of the morning.
“She was unharmed. A police patrol in the area found her at the gas station and took her to the Sebokeng police station to open a case.
Sinetemba Jakavula, spokesman for ANC chief whip Pemmy Majodina, confirmed on Sunday that Tshabalala was back home.
“She is obviously very shocked at what happened, but fortunately did not get hurt. She does not want to talk to the media at this stage, ”Jakavula said.
