Port Elizabeth Police acted quickly when they received a call that a liquor store had been held at gunpoint by 8 suspects.
It has been reported that around 15:45 the store worker was monitoring activity by a suspicious shopper. The worker went to confront the man and he immediately made attempts to flee the store, the complainant grabbed the basket in an attempt to stop him.
As soon as the suspects friends caught a glimpse of the altercation inside they came running into the store and pointed a firearm, the complainant then had no other options but to let go of the basket.
Fleeing the store with two bottles of alcohol, they entered a Mazda 5 vehicle and fled the scene, they did not get far when their trusty vehicle broke down.
The registration plates were quickly circulated and within no time the SAPS Gelvandale Crime Prevention spotted the broken down vehicle and made eight arrests in total.
The suspects did not have enough time to drink the alcohol and it was taken back to the complainant, the unit also confiscated their firearm.
All eight suspects are due to appear in court on the 23rd March 2020 for stolen property, possession of illegal firearms and business robbery charges.
