AfriForum has instructed its legal team to prepare a criminal charge of incitement to violence and hate speech against the Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF).
This comes after the foundation released a media statement about the tragic death of George Floyd in America.
The foundation says in the statement: “The use of force can be rationally and carefully targeted as part of a strategy to combat structural and other forms of violence against black lives. And of course it always has to be that way.”
Ernst Roets, Head of Policy and Action at AfriForum, says the foundation’s “disturbing verdict is a glorification of and incitement to violence”.
“This indicates that the NMS believes it is targeted
can justify violent behavior, depending on who the targets of that violent behavior are, without facing any consequences. “
Roets adds that these types of violent threats have no place in any community.
“The fact that an organization of the NMF’s status can publish a justification of violence in such a nonchalant manner is indeed alarming and self-evident.”
AfriForum also lodged a complaint of hate speech against the NMF with the Equality Court. Roets considers AfriForum the justification of and incitement to violence by the NMF as extremely dangerous and reckless.
