A banking consultant for Absa is behind bars after he allegedly stole almost R25 million from an account of the Limpopo government.
Capt. Limpopo Hawks spokesperson Matimba Maluleke said members of the Hawks and Waterval police arrested the 27-year-old consultant on Friday.
He apparently transferred the R25 million rand to various accounts he had opened earlier.
“Despite its efforts to hide it, the team has been working hard to track down the complex web of accounts associated with it and freeze the money,” said Maluleke.
The suspect was apprehended at his workplace and his home was searched. Police seized four Absa bank cards, two withdrawal slips and R2 030 cash.
He is expected to appear in the Waterval Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of fraud.
Maluleke said more arrests should follow soon.
