A member of the police tactical response unit arrested a 17-year-old boy on Christmas Day after he allegedly raped an 11-year-old girl in Thaba Nchu in the Free State and then fled from angry residents.
The officer was off duty when he arrested the 17-year-old suspect in Zone 1 in Thaba Nchu while furious residents fled who allegedly threatened to assault him.
Provincial police spokesman Motantsi Makhele said the 11-year-old victim and a friend were sent to the suspect’s home around 4 pm to take a pot of rice there.
“However, only one of the children came back home. After a while, the neighbor that sent them with a pot of rice went to look for the girl. “
Makhele said when the neighbor arrived at the house, the suspect was pulling his pants straight while the girl’s pants were open.
“The neighbor called for help. Several residents responded to the emergency call and threatened the suspect.”
However, he fled after they threatened to assault him.
The suspect is in custody and will soon appear in court on a charge of rape.
