A collaboration of teams yielded results on the 29th of February 2020 when they successfully arrested 15 suspects in Ashburton on suspicion of Diesel theft.
The units involved in the investigation were from “Mountain Rise Rapid Response, Pietermaritzburg K9, Cluster Crime Intelligence with Magma security guards” said Brig Jay Naicker
The suspects were caught red-handed making attempts to pump diesel from truck tankers, the units moved in and made the arrests.
Two trucks that were used to transport fuel were confiscated alongside three vehicles, pipes, hydraulic jacks, cash,and a whopping 17 cellphones.
Amongst the suspects, it’s been alleged that two of the fifteen are police officers.
The suspects will attend Camperdown Magistrates on the 2nd March 2020.
Ltnt General Khombinkosi Jula has given recognition to the teams and applauded them for their hard work.
“It is such a disgrace that while other police officers are dedicated to fight crime in the country, others find themselves on the other side of the law because of voracity. Such actions are an embarrassment to the police service and are punishable,” he said.
