In a test done after his death, George Floyd tested positive for COVID-19.
This is how the new autopsy report was released Thursday by Hennepin County.
Dr. Andrew Baker, chief medical examiner, explained that the type of test performed on Floyd during the autopsy could show a positive result “weeks after the clinical illness began and resolved”.
According to Baker, Floyd was probably asymptomatic. This means that Floyd showed no Covid-19 symptoms at the time of his death and that the virus played no role in his death. He was probably not contagious at the time of his death.
Police officer Derek Chauvin is now facing a more serious charge of murder, while the three other police officers involved in Floyd’s arrest are also charged.
Those police officers are facing charges that they assisted Floyd’s murder.
All four officers were suspended shortly after the murder.
“I firmly believe that these developments are in the interest of justice. Floyd, his family, our community and our state, ”Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said Wednesday.
Protests over Floyd’s death continue in more than 20 US cities.
