A delivery worker appeared in the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on charges of fraud and possession of an illegal point of sale (POS).
The 35-year-old man was a delivery worker at a well-known fast-food store in Emalahleni (Witbank) when customers apparently started complaining about additional costs being debited to their bank accounts. This after they paid for orders at the POS, which was provided by the delivery man.
The Hawks arrested the suspect on November 28, 2019 while on his way to deliver food to customers in the area.
A POS card learning device was found in his possession. The team also searched the suspect’s home and confiscated a stolen bank card, hard drives, laptops, three computer chassis, memory sticks, two cellphones and R120 000 in cash.
The suspect has since appeared in court several times. He remains in custody after his most recent appearance.
His case has been adjourned until August 28.
