A total of 622 551 people in South Africa have already tested positive for Covid-19.
Dr. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in his usual statement on Saturday night that another 238 patients had died as a result of Covid-19. These deaths were reported in Gauteng (81), Free State (123), the Eastern Cape (6), KwaZulu-Natal (19) and the Western Cape (9), respectively.
This brings the country’s death toll to 13,981.
Gauteng (25 222) currently has the most active cases of Covid-19 followed by KwaZulu-Natal (14 724) and the Free State with 13 420 active cases of the coronavirus.
However, according to Mkhize, 536 694 patients in South Africa have already recovered from the coronavirus – a recovery rate of 86%.
Another 20,659 tests have been conducted in the meantime. The country has now conducted 3,652,970 tests since the outbreak of the virus. Most of the tests were performed in the private sector.
