Problems in a substation have resulted in residents of Cloetesville, Kayamandi and Welgevonden being without power since Sunday at 4 am.
According to a statement from the Stellenbosch municipality, this is caused by technical problems with one of the transformers in the Cloetesville substation.
“Engineers have been on site since Sunday morning to restore power supply to affected areas. They will work tirelessly to do this as soon as possible.
“The supply to certain areas is switched on systematically as the cables and transformer are repaired and tested.”
Municipal spokesperson Stuart Grobbelaar says there were Eskom load shedding in the same area between 04:00 and 06:00.
“Everything worked until the shedding began,” he says.
The suspicion is that the problems was with the transformer.
This comes after Eskom implemented stage 4 load-shedding on Saturday.
