The South African Airways is going to retrench employees, the state-owned business rescuers have just announced.
“The business rescuers spoke with the unions, as recently as this past weekend, about the process and the plan to start consultations.
“Our plan has always been to retain as many positions as possible, but to focus on creating a sustainable airline and platform for growth,” according to a joint statement by business rescuers Les Matuson and Siviwe Dongwana.
The process includes only 4 708 local employees of SAA, and not of its subsidiaries Mango, SAA Technical or Airchefs.
Fin24 reported that the overall result has seen a decline of R1.3 billion with a cost base that remains more or less flat.
