Four classrooms were destroyed and learning materials and supplies temporarily stored in one classroom were destroyed. The four classrooms are part of a block of eight classrooms on the same floor.
According to a statement from the Gauteng Department of Education, the estimated damage is R4 million.
The ANC said in a statement:
“Engineers will help the department determine which part of the block can still be used,” the statement said.
“We regard it as arson and the police are investigating the incident. It is extremely disappointing and derails our plans, ”said Panyaza Lesufi, Education MEC in Gauteng, in the statement.
“The reality is that we have no money to repair the school. The department will look at what can be saved. The community must be vigilant and help detect the suspects. “
Lesufi went on Twitter against the alleged arsonists, calling them “criminals without a mind.”
