The Passenger Rail Agency has suspended 12 senior officials pending a disciplinary process.
In a statement, Prasa said the suspensions followed allegations of gross negligence by the officials involved, which came to light in various investigations.
According to Prasa, the suspensions are in line with Mpondo’s commitment to ensure good governance in the company. It is also part of Prasa’s efforts to curb “corruption as well as unnecessary waste of money” by employees.
The steps are also in response to findings by the auditor general and the public protector.
Some of the suspensions are related to ongoing investigations by a special investigative unit within Prasa regarding contracts and payments between January 1, 2010 and now.
