Eskom said on Monday that residents of the Letsemeng municipality will be without power every day from 06:00 to 20:00.
Eskom said in a media statement that the municipality, which serves Koffiefontein, Jacobsdal, Luckhoff, Petrusburg, and Rooibult, did not adhere to an installment agreement.
Eskom says the scheduled power outages will be on a daily basis until the municipality complies with its agreement and starts paying off its debt.
The power supplier reserves the right to switch off the power supply to the area completely if necessary.
An estimated 40,000 people here will be affected by Eskom’s actions.
Eskom says municipalities nationwide currently owe him R28.6bn.
NewsliteSA reported in January that the power supplier already stopped supplying power to some homes in Soweto due to not paying.
