Eskom gave the Letsemeng municipality in the Free State another seven days to collect the overdue money for its power bill.
Letsemeng serves Koffiefontein, Jacobsdal, Petrusburg, Luckhoff and Rooibult.
Eskom and the municipality have since met again and the municipality is looking at solutions to its debt situation.
According to Eskom, Letsemeng owes him R38 million, of which the municipality paid R417 000 this week.
Eskom wants Letsemeng to pay R5m of its debt immediately.
The power supplier would initially turn off the area’s power daily from 6am to 8pm on Thursday.
Eskom can also decide to cut the power completely.
According to Eskom, Letsemeng failed to meet previous payment agreements.
